MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - The Kremlin is unaware of an interview given by the convict Paul Whelan where he complained about security threats, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
Reporters asked Peskov to comment on Whelan's statement in an interview with CNN, when he said he feared for his security. "No, we are unaware of that. There is nothing I can say about it," Peskov said.
He said he had no information about the interview.
The Moscow City Court sentenced Whelan, a citizen of the United States, Ireland, Canada and the UK, to 16 years in a penitentiary on espionage counts on June 15, 2020. He pleaded not guilty. Whelan is serving time at High-Security Penitentiary No. 17 in Mordovia.
