Biological security concerns all close neighbors of Russia - Putin

MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Security Council members are discussing biological security in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including in the context of the approaching CIS summit in St. Petersburg.

"Today, we will speak about ensuring collective security in the CIS area, collective biological security, in the context of the problems we faced during the Covid-19 pandemic and the current situation, which, thank God, is not so bad but still quite difficult from the epidemiological point of view. Well, biological security concerns everyone, our closest neighbors," Putin said at an operational meeting with Russian Security Council permanent members.

Meetings with CIS colleagues are planned for December 25-26, Putin said. "This is one of the issues that, clearly, interests everyone. So, our speaker today is Anna Yuryevna Popova [head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing]," Putin said, after which the meeting continued behind closed doors.
