TALLINN. Dec 22 (Interfax) - U.S. artillery forces have demonstrated the capabilities of the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system at the Central firing range in Estonia.
"In total, 11 missiles have been fired as part of the exercise, and all of them hit the targets. The entire exercise took one hour, which indicates the high professional level of our team and the system's efficacy," the press service for the Estonian Defense Forces quoted U.S. Army Capt. Rachelle A. Stewart, commander, Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, as saying.
Short-range training missiles were used in the live-fire exercise. They help HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) operators practice using the system, drill aiming and firing in conditions as close to real combat situations as possible.
U.S. allied units are on duty in Estonia as part of a continuous rotation, which ensures the permanent presence of U.S. forces in the Baltic States, the decision on which was adopted at a NATO summit in Madrid, Spain in June, 2022.
In December 2022, Estonia signed an agreement with the U.S. to buy six HIMARS systems.
