Lukashenko confident Armenia won't quit EAEU

ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is confident that Armenia will continue to be a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

"If Armenia wants to die from an economic standpoint, we could lose it. But I don't think that the Armenians are stupid. They are smart people," Lukashenko told reporters on Monday.

Lukashenko said he is not worried about Armenia's EAEU membership.

"I am not thinking about it. I am not worried. I am convinced that Armenia won't go anywhere," he said.

At the same time, Lukashenko said he is skeptical that Western countries might help Armenia in some way.

"Who will help them, and how? Europe, France is trying to do something. You see what is happening in France. They'd better sort out their own problems before going to the Caucasus and trying to do something there. They can't sort out their own problems. And the Armenians see that," Lukashenko said.
