Russian Northern Fleet simulates cruise missile launch on Barents Sea coast

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Russian forces have practiced deploying Bastion anti-ship systems and performing electronic (simulated) launches of cruise missiles on the Barents Sea coast.

"Bastion road-mobile costal anti-ship missile systems from the Northern Fleet missile brigade have practiced destroying mock enemy surface ships in the Barents Sea," the fleet's press service said on Tuesday.

The Bastion systems were deployed to positions on the Barents Sea coast, it said.

"Bastion launchers practiced target designation and a strike on the mock enemy ships using electronic missile launches," the press service said.

According to official information, the Bastion coastal missile system is designed to protect beaches of over 600 kilometers in length. Each system carries up to 36 Oniks cruise missiles.

The official information says that Bastion, a product of Tactical Missiles Corporation's NPO Mashinostroyenia, has two modifications: the road-mobile Bastion-P and the stationary Bastion-S.

The Russian military reported using the Bastion against ground targets in Syria and during the special military operation in Ukraine.
