Yerevan, Moscow continue talks on arms supplies under existing contracts - Armenian Security Council secretary

YEREVAN. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Yerevan and Moscow are continuing talks on deliveries of weapons under earlier signed contracts, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said.

"Negotiations on unsupplied weapons are ongoing with Russia. Starting from 2021, Armenia had multiple contracts with Russia under which weapons were not delivered. [...] Talks on these contracts are continuing," Grigoryan told Armenian Public Television.

There are no new agreements on military-technical cooperation with Russia, he said.

"Existing contracts are being updated. Negotiations are being held once again. It means that some contracts are being updated, while in other contracts financial issues are being resolved using other options," Grigoryan said.

In May 2023, Yerevan said that Armenia was not receiving weapons from Russia it had ordered and paid for.

In November 2023, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the payments for Russian weapons that were not supplied to Armenia could be used to pay off Armenia's state debt to Russia.

In December 2023, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan told reporters that Armenia and Russia could resolve the problem of non-supplied weapons in an atmosphere of partnership.
