Maneuver border guard unit formed at Belarusian-Ukrainian border

MINSK. Jan 10 (Interfax) - A maneuver group has been formed in the Mozyr border guard unit at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, the Belarusian state-run agency BelTA reported.

Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich and Belarusian State Border Committee Chairman Konstantin Molostov attended the ceremony of completing the formation of the group on Wednesday.

"The event participants became familiar with the newly formed unit, the organization of combat training, the equipment, weapons and military hardware, and also the servicemen's living conditions. Modern Volat armored vehicles produced by the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant are reinforcing the combat potential of the units protecting the Belarusian-Ukrainian border," BelTA reported.

The all-terrain vehicles are equipped with a combat module and are intended for use as special-purpose tactical combat road vehicles.

"The border guard unit said they can promptly move to threatening sectors if the situation aggravates and can inflict fire damage on saboteurs and illegal military formations violating the border, if the need arises," the report said.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko set the task in 2018 to revive rapid-reaction units in every territorial body of the border guard service, Volfovich said.

The Mozyr border guard unit is the youngest entity on the southern border of Belarus. It comprises nine linear frontier posts, four border control units and a maneuver group. The unit controls the area of over 360 kilometers long. The border runs through the territory of the Yelsky, Narovlyansky and Lelchinsky districts of the Gomel region.
