YEREVAN. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Former Deputy Chief of the Armenian Armed Forces' General Staff, Hero of Armenia Tiran Khachatryan has been detained on suspicion of using a firearm at a restaurant, Armenian media said.
"A brawl involving ten people occurred at Erik's Restaurant in Aramus village in the Kotayk region on January 11, during which Tiran Khachatryan fired an award weapon," the media said.
According to reports, Khachatryan was detained at a hotel in the afternoon of January 12.
Photos published by the media show that Khachatryan has a black eye.
The police and the Investigative Committee confirmed the shooting incident at the restaurant to Interfax, but declined further comment.
The Armenian General Staff issued a statement in February 2021 demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Armenian government. The statement was made after then Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed an order on February 24 relieving Khachatryan of his duties as the first deputy chief of the General Staff.
