MINSK. Jan 15 (Interfax) - A procedure for supplying the Belarusian people's militia with weapons and ammunition has been approved with the guideline signed by Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin and published on the national website of legal information on Sunday.
"A procedure for supplying the people's militia with weapons and ammunition has been approved in Belarus," the guideline said.
According to the guideline, executive authorities in regions and the capital shall inform the Defense Ministry about the required amount of weapons and ammunition consistent with the planned size of the units in order to provide the people's militia with weapons and ammunition.
"Based on this information, the Defense Ministry drafts and issues appropriation orders for weapons and ammunition designated for people's militia and forwards them to regional military registration and enlistment offices," the guideline says.
Staffs of territorial defense zones take the weapons and ammunition for people's militia from depots of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
A people's militia bill was adopted by the Belarusian parliament and signed by the president into law in summer 2023. The Belarusian president said that people's militia would consist of units from every rural council, about 50 men each.
People's militia is funded by local budgets, donations and other sources. People's militia units are disbanded at the end of martial law or by a presidential order.
