YEREVAN. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The United States will continue supporting the Armenian government in promoting democracy and opposing corruption, the Armenian government's press service quoted U.S. Department of State Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption Richard Nephew as saying while discussing anti-corruption efforts with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on Monday.
"Pashinyan highlighted the importance of close cooperation with the U.S. administration in countering corruption and developing democratic institutions, as well as the continuation of this interaction. He pointed out that an anti-corruption policy and the promotion of the reform agenda are among the Armenian government's priorities, and the executive branch is moving consistently toward developing anti-corruption mechanisms and making the institutions more efficient," the government said.
Nephew said the U.S. administration would continue to support the Armenian government in bolstering democracy, carrying out productive reforms in the justice system, and countering corruption, it said.
He said the U.S. praises the Armenian government's steps toward attaining said goals, it said.
