Moscow justice of peace imposes 200-mln-ruble revenue-based fine on Amazon subsidiary for working in Russia without branch

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - A Moscow justice of the peace has imposed a revenue-based fine on Amazon Web Services for working in Russia without opening a branch or a representative office, the court told Interfax.

"An administrative fine of 200,469,997 rubles and 13 kopecks has been imposed on Amazon Web Services Inc.," Acting Justice of the Peace from Judicial District No. 422 in Moscow's Tagansky District Alexandra Mikhaleva said in her ruling.

The company was found guilty of failing to fulfill the legal duties of foreign entities operating online on Russian territory.

Such an offense committed by legal entities is penalized with a fine of 1/15 to 1/10 of the overall revenue from the sale of all goods (work, services) in the calendar year preceding the year of the administrative offense but no less than six million rubles.
