Russian State Duma plans first reading of bill on property confiscation for fake info on Wed - MP

MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - The Russian State Duma plans to have the first reading of a bill on confiscation of property for fake information about the Russian Armed Forces on Wednesday, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building and Legislation Pavel Krasheninnikov said.

"It has been proposed today that a federal bill amending the Russian Criminal Code and the Russian Criminal Procedure Code, submitted by practically all faction leaders, be sent and our decision to consider it at a plenary meeting of the State Duma on Wednesday be suggested," Krasheninnikov said at a committee meeting on Monday.

A bill amending the Russian Criminal Code and the Russian Criminal Procedure Code, which envisages confiscation of property and deprivation of titles for certain crimes, including dissemination of fake information about the Russian Armed Forces, was submitted to the State Duma on Monday.

The bill authored by a group of deputies led by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin allows confiscating money, valuables or other property used or intended for funding criminal activity against national security and enables courts to deprive persons of titles for such crimes as spreading knowingly false information about operations of the Russian Armed Forces and public calls for extremism.

Earlier Krasheninnikov said, in response to Interfax's question, that the bill would not be retroactive.
