Russian forces defeat mock enemy in Tajik highlands

YEKATERINBURG. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Troops of the 201st Russian military base have trained at defeating a mock enemy in the mountains of the Sambuli range in Tajikistan, the Russian Central Military District's press service said.

"According to the exercise scenario, an illegal armed unit trespassed onto national territory and took up a position in a highland area to build up its forces," the press service said.

Drones tracked down the mock enemy and transmitted its coordinates to the command post, it said.

"BMP-2 infantry vehicles fired 30mm 2A42 automatic guns and 7.62mm Kalashnikov anti-tank machine guns at mock enemy light armored vehicles and fighters," the press service said.

The exercise involved over 100 troops and around ten special military vehicles.

The 201st military base in Tajikistan is the largest Russian military facility outside the country's national territory. Based in Dushanbe and Bokhtar, it consists of motorized infantry, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, radiation, chemical and biological protection, and signals units.
