MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Russia will do what it can to help the Republic of Chad's leadership stabilize the situation in the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We are delighted that you've managed to hold a constitutional referendum. I am sure you'll hold elections at a high level soon. We are delighted that you've managed to stabilize the situation in the country. We'll facilitate this as much as possible," Putin said when meeting with Chadian Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Deby.
"We're closely following the situation in your country. You know that we were alarmed to see what happened from the standpoint of resisting terrorist forays and what happened to your father," Putin said.
"We are mourning. I'd like to express my condolences once again," Putin said.
The relationship between Russia and Chad has been developing particularly intensively in recent years, Putin said.
"A solid package of documents is being prepared to solidify and expand our treaty framework. I hope your colleagues will finalize this work in the near future," he said.
