Russian Interior Ministry revoked citizenship acquired by naturalization from 62 criminals since Oct

MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry has revoked citizenship from 62 naturalized nationals for committing serious criminal offenses, the ministry's press center said in a statement on Wednesday.

"From October 26, 2023 to January 10, 2024, 62 decisions were issued to terminate Russian citizenship following commission of crimes such as violence against a public authority, rape, illegal drug trafficking," the Interior Ministry said.

Such decisions were predominantly issued by the Interior Ministry's regional departments in the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Moscow, the Vladimir region, the Chelyabinsk region, the Orenburg region, the Krasnoyarsk region, the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Tver region, it said.

"Those individuals with regard to whom a decision on the revocation of Russian citizenship has been issued will be removed from Russian territory upon serving their sentence in penitentiaries," it said.

The Interior Ministry said it was in the process of identifying "all naturalized citizens who have committed crimes after obtaining Russian citizenship, in order to consider its termination."
