NEW YORK, UN. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Russia is not interested in a "major war," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Many people raise the alarm because escalations and hostile rhetoric are growing. Well yes, probably no one wants a major war. And it's the last thing we want. We have lived through major wars in our history many times," he said at a press conference in the United Nations on Wednesday.
"But the United States is taking these actions, the doctrine documents of the U.S, the doctrine documents of NATO name us as a main direct threat," he said.
When asked about a potential clash between Russia and NATO, in particular, its Baltic member states, Lavrov answered, "I've hear that even [U.S.] President [Joe] Biden said something like that, warning that if Ukraine loses, Russia would immediately attack the Baltic states, Finland, and other NATO members."
"Nevertheless, I tend to believe in the reasoning of the U.S. leadership and view it as an attempt to resolve the immediate issue of allocating funds to Ukraine," he said.
"Do they think that the [U.S.] Congress can be so easily intimidated with this actual fairytale?" Lavrov said.
