TBILISI. Jan 29 (Interfax) - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has expressed regret on social media that the country's government did not give her an opportunity to meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who paid a working visit to Tbilisi on Friday.
"Regretfully, I have to say that respective agencies do not inform the president about planned visits to the country, meetings, and high-level events," Zourabichvili said.
Pashinyan visited Georgia for a meeting of the Georgian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission, so everything was done by the book, a Georgian Dream ruling party leader, parliament committee chair Mikheil Sarjveladze told reporters on Saturday.
"We should not forget that Zourabichvili herself has foreclosed the possibility of making a real input to such processes, in particular by her uncoordinated steps that brought matters to the point of an impeachment process against her in parliament. The process ended without result, but de facto led to the government's reluctance to cooperate with Zourabichvili," Sarjveladze said.
In turn, opposition members commented on Zourabichvili's public regrets and recommended that she take a principled stance on the government and pardon incarcerated former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.
