Russian Baltic Fleet practice delivering Islander-M missile systems in Kaliningrad region

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - A tactical-special exercise to deliver munitions for Iskander-M systems to positions began in the Baltic Fleet's missile unit, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

"The technical unit will need to fulfil the requirements to deliver missiles using all-terrain vehicles based on Kamaz vehicles, and check their technical condition with the maintenance vehicle's on-board equipment," the statement said.

The troops will then "march to a new district, where they will also practice organizing communication with the upper command, protection and defense of the positons, and also camouflaging and engineering equipment of the positions," it said.

The exercise is taking place at a specialized firing range in the Kaliningrad region, it said.

The Iskander-M tactical missile system, designed by the Mashinostroyeniya design bureau, which is a part of the High Precision Systems Holding, is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. Iskander-M can be equipped with either a ballistic or cruise missiles.
