Russian Su-25 attack planes practice in Kyrgyzstan

YEKATERINBURG. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Sukhoi Su-25 attack planes from the Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan have held drills in the mountains, the Russian Central Military District's press service said in a statement on Thursday.

"Russian pilots practiced using missile and bombing systems of the Su-25 attack plane against targets hidden in gorges and simulating ammo depots of the mock enemy," the press service said.

Pairs of aircraft approached targets at minimal altitudes and maneuvered to avoid the mock enemy's air defense, it said.

Su-25 is designed to support ground forces over the battlefield in direct visibility of targets. It aims to destroy small-sized mobile and immobile ground targets and slow airborne targets.

The Russian joint military base is situated in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan. Being part of the Collective Rapid Response Force, it contributes to the provision of airspace security of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states. The base operates Su-25 attack planes and upgraded Mil Mi-8MTV5-1 helicopters.
