MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Around 10 Kamov Ka-27 and Ka-27PS deck helicopters from the mixed helicopter regiment of the naval aviation formation of the Russian Baltic Fleet are performing training flights to hunt for mock enemy surface targets and submarines, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Monday.
"The helicopters will search for submarines using submersible sonars, drill firing at surface and underwater targets, practice air combat maneuvering, as well as searching and rescuing crews of ships and aircraft in distress," the statement said.
The aim of the drill is "to hone flight proficiency and skills in combat use of aircraft, as well as to raise the pilots' professional mastery," it said.
"Over 20 combat training and search and rescue support sorties are scheduled. The tactical flight exercise will last several days," it said.
