TBILISI. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Incarcerated former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has urged the opposition to nominate a single presidential candidate at the end of this year.
"I know more or less who could be the opposition's presidential candidate, but I am interested in hearing others' opinions," Saakashvili said on a social network on Tuesday.
He lauded the annual report of Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili in parliament and noted that she had called for unity among all pro-Western forces in Georgia.
"Today's speech of the president and the general political situation prove that the rule of oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has run its course, and we should free Georgia from his claws at the upcoming parliamentary elections," Saakashvili said.
Opposition parties have repeatedly said earlier that they would nominate Saakashvili for prime minister in the event of their victory in the parliamentary elections in October.
While addressing parliament, Zourabichvili strongly criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party and its founder Ivanishvili.
