Azerbaijani Border Service conducts operation following Armenian provocation on border

BAKU. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani State Border Service carried out Operation Retaliation on Tuesday in response to a provocation staged by the Armenian Armed Forces on the border on February 12, the service said in a statement.

"State Border Service units carried out Operation Retaliation on February 13 in response to the provocation committed by the Armenian Armed Forces yesterday. As a result of the operation, the Armenian Armed Forces' combat post near the village of Nerkin Hand in the Gafan district, from where fire was opened on our soldiers yesterday, was fully destroyed and the combat positions were suppressed," the service said.

The responsibility for the incident rests squarely with Armenia's military-political leadership, it said.

It was reported on Monday that an Azerbaijani border guard was injured in an attack on the border.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Armenian army units had attacked Azerbaijani military positions in the Tovuz sector of the border.

The Armenian Defense Ministry, in turn, said that two of its servicemen were killed and several others were injured in the Nerkin Hand district in southern Armenia as a result of an Azerbaijani attack.
