Russian warship unit enters Andaman Sea

MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax) - A Russian warship unit comprising the Varyag missile cruiser and the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate has entered the Andaman Sea through the Strait of Malacca, the Russian Pacific Fleet's press service said on Wednesday.

"Crews of the Varyag missile cruiser and the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate practiced repelling an attack by sea saboteurs through placing supplementary posts on their upper decks to counter the mock enemy's sabotage forces and hardware," the press service said.

"The Pacific Fleet warships also practiced traversing waters with intensive navigation, with due account of the specifics of the pilot chart and traffic in the Strait of Malacca," it said.

"The unit of Pacific Fleet warships continues its movement consistent with the plan of the long-range voyage," it said.

The press service said earlier that the ships had a drill in the southern part of the South China Sea.
