MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin has called for developing multifaceted cooperation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK, North Korea).
"We are focused on consistently expanding multifaceted contacts between Russia and the DPRK, which fully meets the interests of our countries and peoples," Fomin said at a reception marking the 82nd birthday of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in Moscow on Thursday.
"I am convinced that traditional good-neighborly relations between Russia and the DPRK will develop and be further strengthened, making a solid contribution to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeastern Asia as a whole," he said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also mentioned Russia and North Korea's similar approaches towards global and regional problems.
"The relationship between our countries is marked by a high level of mutual understanding and similar approaches towards most global and regional problems," Russian Foreign Ministry First Asian Department Director Ivan Zhelokhovtsev said at the reception.
"I am sure that, as the consequences of the pandemic are fully overcome, our bilateral relations will continue to develop consistently, including in practical fields, in the interests of our countries' peoples," he said.
