Patrushev: West's aspiration for dominance causes unprecedented aggravation of int'l situation

BISHKEK. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The West's aspiration to maintain its global dominance at any cost has caused an unprecedented aggravation of the international situation, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said at a meeting of Security Council secretaries on Afghanistan in Bishkek.

"Our meeting is taking place against the backdrop of an unprecedented aggravation of the international situation. The reason is the West's aspiration to maintain its dominance in global affairs at any cost," Patrushev said.

"Washington is confident that it is more convenient to do so amid general chaos. The West is ready to do anything to achieve its goals," he said.

The Western plans to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia at the hands of Ukraine have failed, Patrushev said.

"This has led to a new wave of destabilization in the Middle East, where Israeli actions caused a humanitarian catastrophe for over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza and tens of thousands of civilian casualties," he said.

Representatives of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are taking part in the meeting.
