Public Monitoring Commission for Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District had no complaints from Navalny

SALEKHARD. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The Public Monitoring Commission for the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District did not receive any complaints from Alexei Navalny, commission chair Danila Gontar told Interfax.

"No, we received nothing," Gontar said in response to a question as to whether they had received any complaints.

He added that the commission's visit to the penitentiary planned for late January did not take place.

"Members of the Public Monitoring Commission were ill, so we could not arrange a visit. I have no other information," Gontar said.

The Federal Penitentiary Service's branch in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District reported Navalny's death earlier on Friday.

The service said he felt unwell and almost immediately lost consciousness while taking a walk. Resuscitation measures failed, and paramedics confirmed the convict's death. The causes of death are being established.
