PACE decision on Azerbaijan mistake - Erdogan

BAKU. Feb 19 (Interfax) - The decision made by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) concerning the Azerbaijani delegation's mandate was a mistake, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"Turkey deems the PACE decision related to the mandate of the Azerbaijani delegation to be wrong and will make every step for this decision to be overturned," Erdogan told a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Ankara on Monday.

Turkey expressed its strong dislike of the decision, he said. "This structure is not a place for confrontation but a platform for dialogue in the name of strengthening democracy. That is exactly how we see PACE," Erdogan said.

Ankara will continue to support Baku and make every possible effort to reinstate the Azerbaijani delegation's rights, he said.

It was reported that on January 24, 2024, PACE decided not to confirm the delegation's credentials. On February 1, Aliyev said his country would review its CoE membership unless the delegation's rights were restored.
