MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Steps to enhance coordination between Russia and Cuba in global issues and in regional formats were discussed in detail during Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's visit to Cuba, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press release published on its website.
"Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov visited the Republic of Cuba on February 19 as part of his Latin America tour. The Russian foreign minister was received by President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. He also held talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez. [...] The parties discussed in detail the parameters of strengthening close coordination between the countries on the world stage and on regional platforms. They confirmed the mutual commitment to comprehensively enhance the Russian-Cuban strategic partnership," the ministry said.
During the meetings, the sides "reaffirmed the invariable approach of Russia and Cuba toward the categorical unacceptability of using unilateral illegitimate restrictions," it said.
Russia also reiterated its unwavering support for Havana in its demand for a complete and immediate lifting of the U.S. embargo and the removal of Cuba from the U.S. Department of State's list of state sponsors of terrorism, the Foreign Ministry said.
