Canada to supply over 800 drones to Ukraine - media

WASHINGTON. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Ottawa will provide more than 800 domestically produced drones to Kiev as part of an additional aid package to Ukraine, the CTV television channel said, citing Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair.

"The drones, worth an estimated $95 million, are paid for by the $500 million package unveiled by the prime minister [Justin Trudeau] during his visit to Kiev last June," CTV said.

The shipment will include SkyRanger R70 drones made in Canada, which can carry "various camera systems and payloads to detect and identify targets," it said.

Canada is expected to send these drones to Ukraine by early April.

Blair also spoke about the need to boost the production of military-purpose items in Canada, because "production is defense."

Canada has already spent $9.7 billion on support for Ukraine since February 2022, including $2.4 billion in military aid, the TV channel said.
