MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Russia has been and will be strongly opposed to deploying nuclear weapons in space, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Our position is clear and transparent. We have always been categorically against [this], and are now against deploying nuclear weapons in space. On the contrary, we call for compliance with all agreements that exist in this sphere," Putin said at a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
"We propose strengthening this joint work many times over," he said.
At the same time, Putin drew attention to "the uproar that has been raised recently in the West over the deployment of nuclear weapons in space." Putin asked Shoigu to comment on what the uproar was related to.
