WASHINGTON. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The Moscow court ruling, which upholds the arrest of the Wall Street Journal's Evan Gershkovich, is disappointing, U.S. Department of State Spokesman Matthew Miller said on Tuesday.
"We're disappointed but not surprised by the outcome of the hearing," Miller said at a press briefing.
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy attended the hearing, he said.
As reported, the Moscow City Court upheld as lawful the extended arrest of Gershkovich, a correspondent of the Wall Street Journal's Moscow bureau, charged with spying.
The appeal panel met in camera, as materials in the proceeding are classified. By March 30, Gershkovich will have been incarcerated for one year.
