LONDON. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The United Kingdom has announced sanctions against six officials from the administration of the penal colony where Alexei Navalny died last week.
"The UK has sanctioned six individuals heading up the penal colony where Alexei Navalny died on Friday," the UK Foreign Office said in a statement.
"[They] will be banned from the UK and see their assets frozen," it said.
The sanctions have been imposed on Vadim Kalinin, the director of the colony, and his deputies Sergei Korzhov, Vasily Vydrin, Vladimir Pilipchik, Alexander Golyakov, and Alexander Obraztsov.
The statement says that "the UK is the first country to impose sanctions in response to the death of Mr. Navalny."
The Russian Federal Penitentiary Service's department for the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District reported on February 16 that Navalny died in a local penal colony.
