MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions against four shipowner companies for receiving profits from supporting the Russian government by doing business in the energy sector.
According to the published list, the companies are Turkey's Active Denizcilik Ve Gemi Isletmeciligi Anonim Sirketi and Beks Ship Management And Trading Joint Stock Company, Fractal Marine DMCC from the United Arab Emirates, and Paramount Energy & Commodities SA (Geneva, Switzerland). The latter is connected to Paramount Energy & Commodities DMCC from the UAE, which has been on the UK's sanctions list since November.
Sanctions have also been imposed on Dutch citizen Niels Oscar Troost, who is associated with Paramount Energy & Commodities SA.
"Oil trader Niels Troost and his company Paramount Energy & Commodities SA. Troost facilitates the unfettered trade of Russian oil outside the reach of UK and G7 sanctions, including through UAE-based Paramount Energy & Commodities DMCC, which the UK designated in November 2023. Fractal Marine DMCC, Beks Ship Management, and Active Shipping, which operate in the Russian energy sector as part of [...] shadow fleet," the press release said.
In the transport sector, the UK has also imposed sanctions against two shipping companies - Russia's Azia Shipping and Ibex Shipping INC. According to the press release, they were involved in the transportation of weapons from North Korea to Russia.
