F-16 fighters to reach Ukraine this summer - Danish DM

BRUSSELS. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Denmark has signed a security agreement with Ukraine for a period of 10 years and announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine that envisages the supply of F-16 fighters this coming summer.

"The agreement means that future military and civilian support will be established in a framework for the next 10 years in a bilateral political agreement," Western media reported, citing a statement by the Danish Foreign Ministry.

Denmark has also announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth 1.7 billion krones (around 228 million euros). The 15th package of assistance to Ukraine includes supplies of 15,000 artillery shells together with the Czech Republic, as well as drones and air defense weapons, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.

Additionally, the first Danish F-16 fighters will reach Ukraine in the summer, he said.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called on the allies to increase assistance to Ukraine on Tuesday.

Denmark continues providing assistance in the hope that more countries will do the same, but not in half a year or a year, but now, when the need for it is very, very high, she told a press conference.
