SUKHUM. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry has sent a letter to the Russian Foreign Ministry and asked to pay attention to incidents involving several Abkhaz citizens that occurred while they were crossing the Russian-Abkhaz border on the river Psou, the Abkhaz ministry's media center said.
"Citizens of Abkhazia that have experienced incidents while crossing the Abkhaz-Russian state border at the Adler road border crossing actively speak out in mass media, informing the public on this issue. The Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia is requesting the Foreign Ministry of Russia to pay attention to this problem," the letter says.
Abkhaz opposition members earlier asked Russian Ambassador in Sukhum Mikhail Shurgalin to help solve what they called problems in crossing the Abkhaz-Russian border by opposition activists.
According to a statement signed by Abkhaz civil society organizations, former members of the country's parliament and workers of independent Abkhaz media, citizens of Abkhazia, including journalists and opposition politicians, have recently experienced detentions while crossing into Russia, being held for several hours at the border or questioned about their views and civic position.
