MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a terrorist attack in the Zaporozhye region using substances similar to banned toxic agents, detaining three people in this case.
"An attempt by Ukrainian special services to stage a terrorist attack using a substance similar to a chemical-warfare agent, NATO code BZ, was thwarted in the Zaporozhye region," the FSB press center said on Tuesday.
"The seized substances are used to make chemical weapons of mass destruction and were developed in the U.S.," the press center said.
Three Ukrainian citizens have been detained, it said.
The FSB's investigative department has opened a criminal case on counts of development, production, accumulation, acquisition or sale of weapons of mass destruction and a terrorist act, the press center said.
