Yerevan reports detaining Azerbaijani soldier who crossed border

YEREVAN. Feb 29 (Interfax) - The Armenian Investigative Committee has reported detaining a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on counts of attempted sabotage and murder.

"Serviceman Ruslan Penakhov has been detained on the orders of an investigator," the Armenian Investigative Committee's press service said.

"Criminal cases were opened on counts of attempted sabotage, attempted murder by a socially dangerous method, attempted murder for reasons of ethnic or religious hate or enmity, illegal carrying and transportation of firearms and ammunition, smuggling of firearms and ammunition, and illegal crossing of the border," it said.

The Armenian National Security Service said on Wednesday that an Azerbaijani soldier had crossed the Armenian border near Tekh in the Syunik region in southern Armenia. Yerevan said the soldier was carrying an AKM assault rifle with a magazine.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said for its part that a soldier went missing in the Lachin district bordering Armenia after he became lost in bad weather.
