YEREVAN. March 5 (Interfax) - Armenia intends to send humanitarian aid to Gaza with the assistance of Egypt, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Armenia regrets the tens of thousands of innocent victims resulting from the escalation in fighting in the Gaza Strip. Having ourselves gone through the ordeal of attacks on the civilian population and civilian infrastructure, we join international calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In this context, we highly appreciate the Egyptian steps to ensure smooth access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, to admit wounded Palestinians and to evacuate foreigners," Pashinyan told a joint briefing with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo on Tuesday.
"We also discussed, and we need, the support and advice of our Egyptian colleagues in terms of getting the humanitarian aid to Gaza, and we are grateful to President el-Sisi for his willingness to assist with this matter," Pashinyan said.
The matter will be dealt with by the foreign ministers, he said.
"As for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Armenia has always supported the internationally adopted 'two-state' principle," Pashinyan said.
On October 7, 2023, the Hamas group attacked Israel. Israel responded by launching a military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. A ceasefire, which came into effect in Gaza on November 24, did not last as the sides failed to secure its extension, and hostilities resumed on December 1.
