MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported neutralizing a Belarusian citizen plotting a terror attack in Karelia on orders of Ukrainian security services.
"The Russian Federal Security Service prevented a terror attack plotted by Ukrainian security services in the Republic of Karelia with the participation of a recruited Belarusian citizen, born in 1974, a member of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment nationalist organization, banned in Belarus and an internationally wanted fugitive," the FSB public relations center said.
"The agent of Ukrainian security services was gathering and transferring information about transport infrastructure and executive authorities of the region," it said.
"Acting on orders from his handlers, the perpetrator retrieved weapons and an improvised explosive device from a cache for blowing up an administrative building in the town of Olonets," the FSB said.
The perpetrator opened gunfire at security service officers and "was neutralized in the shootout," he said.
There are no casualties among security service officers and civilians.
