SCO secretary general to head observation mission at Russian presidential election

MINSK. March 11 (Interfax) - Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary General Zhang Ming will head the SCO observation mission at the Russian presidential election, the SCO press service said on Monday.

"The SCO observation mission led by SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming will be monitoring the Russian presidential election at the invitation of the Russian Foreign Ministry," the press service said.

The mission has 17 members representing Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The mission relies on the SCO guidelines based on "the principles of political neutrality, impartiality, non-interference in internal affairs, and strict compliance with national laws of the state where the observation is carried out," the press service said.

The Russian presidential election will take place on March 15-17.
