MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Russia has received an official letter from Armenia on replacing Russian border guards with Armenian border officials at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"It's true that an agency-level letter has been received, and there have been contacts between the relevant agencies. I can't tell you more for now," Peskov told journalists in reply to a corresponding question on Tuesday.
"Naturally, contacts at all levels will continue," he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan notified Moscow of its intention to exercise border control functions at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport on its own.
"The Armenian Border Forces have sent a letter to the Russian Border Forces in Armenia to thank them for their service at the airport and for maintaining security, carrying out border control functions, and providing their support and services since Armenia gained independence," Pashinyan said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Armenian border guards "can exercise border control functions on its their own, without Russia's assistance," Pashinyan said
