MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - An Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane has crashed in Russia's Ivanovo region with 15 people onboard, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"An Il-76 military transport plane on a scheduled flight crashed while taking off in the Ivanovo region at around 1 p.m. on March 12. There were eight crewmembers and seven passengers onboard," the ministry said on Tuesday.
"According to the report from the incident scene, the crash was caused by an engine fire that broke out during takeoff," it said.
A commission of the Russian Aerospace Forces' command has left for the Ivanovo airfield to investigate the crash, the ministry said.
