Russian Defense Ministry: Safe rotation of IAEA monitoring mission at Zaporozhye NPP facilitated (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces and units of the Russian National Guard have facilitated another safe rotation of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) monitoring mission at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Four inspectors arrived as part of the mission, their task is monitoring and assessment of the security of the Zaporozhye NPP," the ministry said.

"A ceasefire, which was strictly observed by all Russian troops, had been declared to ensure the security of IAEA observers along the entire route from the designated crossing place, the destroyed bridge outside the Kamenskoye populated locality in the Zaporozhye region," it said.

"Before starting off at the crossing point for international observers arriving for the rotation, Russian mine clearance experts examined this location for unexploded foreign and Ukrainian ordnances left following attacks on the territory of the Zaporozhye region by Ukrainian forces," the ministry said.

"After concluding engineering reconnaissance, Russian servicemen facilitated the safe passage of the observers from the mission and their transportation to the power plant," it said.

"After a brief transfer of cases to the observers who arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP, servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and the Russian National Guard safely transported IAEA representatives to the crossing point where they departed to the territory of Ukraine," it said.

According to official information, the Zaporozhye NPP has stayed under Russian control since late February 2022. IAEA experts have been present at the NPP since September 1, 2022.

The Zaporozhye NPP, located in Energodar, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe by installed capacity.
