U.S. trying to undermine Russians' confidence in authorities - Peskov

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - The United States has been trying to undermine Russians' confidence in the authorities for years and probably conducts the same policy in other countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov to comment on media reports, which said that then U.S. President Donald Trump ordered in 2019 that an operation be launched to undermine the Chinese population's confidence in the national authorities, including President Xi Jinping.

"All I can tell you is that we have experienced such activities for years. The United States, its agencies and special services have been doing the same in our country and are trying to continue such activity," Peskov said.

The strong rejection by Russian society has helped minimize the efficiency of the U.S. security services' work, he said.

"This does not mean they have stopped trying," Peskov said.

"We cannot rule out that the same practices are being exercised in other states," he said.
