Putin orders Russian security services step up counter-terrorism operations

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the security services to intensify counter-terrorism operations.

"I ask the FSB [Federal Security Service] jointly with other security services and law enforcement agencies under the coordination of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee to seriously strengthen anti-terrorist work in all directions, realizing that we are dealing with a strong, dangerous enemy, whose arsenal includes extensive information, technical and financial capabilities," Putin said at an expanded meeting of the FSB board on Tuesday.

"We know their capabilities in all areas, including intelligence methods, and terrorist methods," he added, recalling the blowing up of the Nord Stream gas pipeline as an example.
