MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - A Ukrainian missile fired from a Patriot air defense missile system has been intercepted over the Belgorod region and an S-200 system missile has been intercepted over the Kursk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"On-duty air defense forces destroyed an S-200 anti-aircraft guided missile over the territory of the Kursk region and another missile, fired from a Patriot air defense missile system, over the territory of the Belgorod region," the ministry said.
The S-200 Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile was modified to strike targets on the ground, it said.
The attempted attack was thwarted at around 10:30 p.m. Moscow time on Tuesday, the ministry said.
