Court arrests 8th defendant in Crocus City Hall attack case

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - Moscow's Basmanny District Court has upheld an investigator's motion and arrested Alisher Kasimov, the eighth defendant in the case of the terror attack on Crocus City Hall in the Moscow region, the court told Interfax.

"The court ruling has placed Kasimov under arrest until May 22, 2024," the court said on Tuesday.

The court met in camera at the investigator's request.

As said in court, Kasimov, 31, is a citizen of Russia born in Kyrgyzstan who has a registered address in the village of Putilkovo in the Krasnogorsk district of the Moscow region. The defendant said he was a father of three young children and an individual entrepreneur running a cafe.

The judge asked Kasimov whether he understood the charges. Kasimov replied that he was not acquainted with the people charged with perpetrating the terror attack and was looking for tenants. He said he was not aware of the plans of the people who contacted him.

"I did not know they were [planning] terrorism. I posted on avito.ru that I wanted a tenant, [that] I had an apartment to let," Kasimov told the court.
