ASTANA. March 26 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and U.S. Republican Senator Steve Daines discussed trade and economic cooperation and international and regional security at a meeting in Astana on Tuesday, the Kazakh presidential press service said.
"The interlocutors focused on international and regional security. The president noted in this context that Kazakhstan was one of the first countries in the world to strongly condemn the cruel terror attack in the Moscow region and to voice its solidarity with Russia," the press service said.
All countries should pool their efforts within a massive international coalition despite bilateral disagreements, Tokayev said as quoted in the statement. "Kazakhstan is ready to make a contribution to this important cause," the statement said.
The sides also exchanged views on trade and economic cooperation. "The Kazakh leader underlined that our country gives considerable attention to attracting investments, liberalizing the economy and developing industries. Energy, mineral prospecting and development, and the modernization of infrastructure are among key areas of bilateral relations," it said.
