Two Russian frigates carrying Tsirkon missiles practice destroying group of mock enemy's ships in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - The Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov frigates armed with guided missiles practiced destroying a group of a mock enemy's ships in the Barents Sea, the Russian Northern Fleet said on Wednesday.

"The joint computer-simulated strike on a group of a mock enemy's ships by long-range precision-guided missiles was a chief element of the frigates' training," the fleet's press service said.

A Northern Fleet group of ships led by the Admiral Levchenko destroyer impersonated the enemy, it said.

The Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov frigates fired artillery at a moving sea target impersonating a mock enemy's ship at a distance of over ten kilometers, the press service said.

"Additionally, the frigates practiced protection of the strike group from unmanned aerial vehicles and naval drones. Palash air defense artillery systems hit air and surface targets," it said.

"The crews repelled an attack by a mock enemy's aircraft, using passive countermeasures and radio-electronic systems. Ship-borne MiG-29K and Sukhoi Su-33 aircraft of the Northern Fleet's combined aviation corps impersonated the mock enemy," it said.
