MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - The West is continually destroying strategic stability fundamentals, Russian General Staff Chief, First Deputy Defense Minister Valery Gerasimov said.
"The recent events prove the continuing destruction of strategic stability fundamentals and international security institutions by the West," Gerasimov said in his opening remarks at a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Committee of General Staff Chiefs in Moscow.
The meeting "is taking place in a fluid military-political situation, which tends to escalate," Gerasimov said.
"Hotbeds of tension are emerging in various parts of the planet not without foreign influence, and international terrorism backed by shadow sponsors remains a global threat to peace," he said.
"Under these circumstances, challenges facing the CIS states become more real and diverse, which binds us to have well-equipped and trained armed forces," Gerasimov said.
It is symbolic that the meeting has begun with an exhibition of weapons and military and special hardware used in the special military operation in Ukraine, he said.
"I have no doubt you will find it interesting and useful to see the achievements of the Russian defense sector and the prospective military products," Gerasimov said.
